Adding color to your kitchen can be achieved by simply painting your kitchen cabinets. It’s a project that doesn’t require a lot of materials and that can usually be knocked out in a few days. You need to plan ahead so that you have all of the supplies that you need for painting. The following are a few tips to consider when you begin this process of transforming the appearance of your kitchen.

Supplies

Before you begin taking off the cabinet doors or removing other items from your kitchen so that you can paint, you need to get all of the supplies that you need. Look at the types of paint that are available as you want to get one that is suitable for the conditions of your home. You should also have plenty of brushes in different sizes and rollers if you’re painting large surfaces.

Colors

Take the time to look at the colors that are used in your kitchen. You want the paint color that you use to coordinate with the appliances and the larger components while highlighting some of the smaller areas. If you don’t plan on painting again anytime soon, then consider a neutral color that can work with any changes in appliances and designs that you make in the kitchen.

Hardware

Before you begin painting, you want to remove the hardware on the cabinets and the drawers if these will be painted as well. This will give you a flat surface to work with and will make it easier to sand the cabinets if this step is needed. You can also add design details to the cabinet doors once the hardware is removed.

Packing Up

Gather a few boxes for packing dishes and other items that are in your cabinets. Try to keep items from each cabinet in the same box to make it easier to put them back where they belong once the cabinets are painted and the doors put back. If your kitchen has enough space, you might be able to move the boxes to one side of the room while you’re painting instead of taking the boxes to another room in your home.

Painting your cabinets is an easy way to change the way your kitchen looks. With the right supplies, you can save money by doing the project yourself. You can also make it a family project that everyone is involved with so that everyone can add their own personal touch.
